<p>The primary challenge in intelligent welding lies in maintaining consistent, high-quality output amidst arc light, smoke, spatter, and thermal deformation. A single perspective or one-time observation rarely meets the rigorous demands of the production line.</p>



<p>The stability of human welding stems from <strong>&#8220;eye-hand coordination&#8221;</strong>: the eyes continuously monitor the weld bead and melt pool, while the hands adjust posture and rhythm in real-time based on that feedback. To replicate this, embodied AI welding robots require <strong>multi-dimensional real-time perception</strong>, as well as information fusion and motion control within a <strong>unified coordinate system</strong>.</p>



<p>Traditional solutions often rely on complex and stringent high-precision hand-eye calibration, which leads to high deployment difficulty and poor on-site adaptability. Our self-developed next-generation industrial stereo camera, the <strong>ViEye Pro</strong>, utilizes a unified coordinate system and optimized calibration workflows. It significantly reduces hand-eye calibration requirements and deployment complexity while simultaneously performing core functions such as weld seam identification, melt pool monitoring, and thermal deformation sensing. A single camera achieves human-like, full-process intelligent welding perception.</p>



<h3>Six Core Functions: Precision Before and During Welding</h3>



<p>To achieve this goal, we have integrated <strong>Static Area Scan, Dynamic Line Scan, High-Precision RGB, Weld Seam Extraction, Weld Seam Tracking, and Melt Pool Monitoring</strong> into a single device. By sharing a unified reference base, the system reduces error accumulation caused by multi-perspective conversions and lowers the dependency on high-precision calibration, providing a controllable foundation for on-site operation.</p>



<ol><li><strong>Static Area Scan: Capturing Overall Geometry</strong>
Used to capture the overall geometry and regional morphology of the workpiece before welding. It performs an &#8220;initial survey&#8221; to identify the weld path, key structural positions, and potential clamping deviations.</li><li><strong>Dynamic Line Scan: Real-time Observation at Production Pace</strong>
Suitable for continuous observation while the robot is in motion. It efficiently extracts key geometric information of the weld seam to support online positioning, tracking, and deviation correction.</li><li><strong>High-Precision RGB: Enhancing Accuracy with Detail</strong>
Provides high-quality 2D images to capture details such as welding wire position, edge textures, and surface conditions, allowing for more precise system judgments.</li><li><strong>Weld Seam Extraction: Comprehensive Pre-weld Insights</strong>
Focuses on critical pre-weld checks, including weld path position, workpiece posture, and arc start/stop areas, reducing the need for mid-process remedies.</li><li><strong>Weld Seam Tracking: Precision Node Alignment</strong>
Aligns key feature points and reference positions to ensure the weld path starts and remains on the correct trajectory.</li><li><strong>Melt Pool Monitoring: A Real-time Window for Dynamic Adjustment</strong>
Provides feedback on melt pool morphology and brightness, reflecting energy input and speed. This allows the system to detect anomalies and adjust parameters dynamically during the weld.</li></ol>



<h3>6-in-1 Synergy: Enabling &#8220;Watch and Weld&#8221; Capabilities</h3>



<p>The <strong>ViEye Pro</strong> forms a complete operational loop. By functioning as the &#8220;eyes&#8221; of the embodied AI welding robot, it makes teach-free welding a reality. Just as human welders require real-time visual feedback to coordinate hand movements, intelligent welding cannot rely solely on static, single-perspective observation. This is the core value of the melt pool camera integration.</p>



<p><strong>Vizum</strong> has ensured that all functions share a highly consistent 3D origin. By unifying all coordinates based on this origin, additional errors are kept at an absolute minimum. This technological foundation is essential for the large-scale industrial application of intelligent welding.</p>

<p>To enhance delivery efficiency, the <strong>ViEye</strong> is supported by <strong>Stereo Vision Management Software</strong> for configuration and calibration. <p>Recently, Dr. Dong Xiaojian, Founder and CEO of Vizum, was invited to take part in XinhuaNet’s special interview series <em>“Seeing 2026.”</em> In the interview, he shared Vizum’s perspectives and practical approach to key questions facing the embodied intelligence sector—its progress in 2025, the most important breakthrough directions for 2026, and the essential conditions for humanoid robots to move toward scaled mass production and broad real-world adoption.</p>



<h2>The Industry Enters an Acceleration Phase: From “Buzz” to “Validation and Deployment”</h2>



<p>2025 is widely regarded across the industry as a milestone year for embodied intelligence. Driven by national strategic initiatives and strengthened cross-industry collaboration, the sector has achieved rapid advances and continued to reinforce its foundations for industrialization. Looking ahead to 2026, as core technologies continue to break through and commercialization deepens, embodied intelligence is entering a pivotal phase of accelerated evolution.</p>

<h2>Scaling Up Production: Start with “Stability” and “Cost”</h2>



<p>In Dr. Dong’s view, the prerequisite for “scaled mass production” is not simply building prototypes—it is ensuring robots can operate stably and sustainably in real-world environments. He emphasized in the interview that, for large-scale adoption, products must withstand the demands of long-duration operation. At the same time, cost optimization is a fundamental requirement for entering a wider range of scenarios. This calls for continuous iteration across processes, materials, and engineering systems, so that products can become viable for more service and application settings.</p>

<p>Behind this assessment lies a shared industry challenge: moving from “demo capability” to “delivery capability.” Stability determines whether a robot can keep working over time; cost and manufacturability determine whether it can be deployed at scale.</p>



<h2>From Teleoperation to Autonomy: Humanoid Robots Need Human-Like Self-Perception</h2>



<p>Dr. Dong further noted that true autonomy in humanoid robots requires stronger self-perception and self-diagnosis—the ability to sense internal states and detect issues, rather than relying on teleoperation to complete tasks. In other words, to reach the stage of large-scale application, key capabilities must be built into the system so robots can operate in complex, uncertain real-world environments with greater self-awareness, autonomous decision-making, and reliable execution.</p>

<h2>“Operate First, Talk Later”: Stereo Vision as the Foundation of Manipulation</h2>



<p>When discussing capability priorities for humanoid robots, Dr. Dong offered a clear engineering judgment: for humanoid robots, “manipulation” comes first. One of the critical enablers of manipulation is a high-precision stereo vision system that is interpretable and learnable. For real tasks such as picking, carrying, assembling, and organizing, vision must do more than detect—it must perceive clearly, understand the scene, and support closed-loop learning, enabling stable operation and continuous improvement.</p>

<p>Vizum’s intelligent dexterous hand features <strong>16 degrees of freedom per hand</strong>, with fingertip force up to <strong>12N</strong>, and remains stable during extended operation. With smooth finger motion and responsive control, it supports a wide range of actions including picking, gripping, transporting, and placing.</p>



<p>Working in coordination with Vizum’s binocular stereo vision system, the dexterous hand enables hand–eye servo control—aligning “recognize first, then act” into a consistent control loop—improving grasp localization, execution stability, and overall success rate.</p>

<p>Backed by a fully self-developed humanoid mechanical body, a full-stack low-latency control board and drive system, and proprietary lead-screw technology, Vizum has established a complete motion-control approach from body to end-effector. The robot’s mechanical design balances lightweight construction with high agility, and multi-DoF coordination enables rich, precise motion expression.</p>

<p>On the afternoon of December 17, Dr. Xiaojian Dong, CEO of Vizum, was invited to speak at the roundtable session “Resilient Growth and Emerging Prosperity for Industrial Robotics.” The discussion followed the industry’s key questions through a well-structured series of topics, focusing on practical entry points for deployment, growth strategies, and future development routes for embodied intelligence and industrial robots. <p>In his remarks, Dr. Dong noted that since its founding in 2016, Vizum has built two core product lines around industrial demand: intelligent industrial 3D cameras and humanoid robots. Vizum has prioritized its stereo vision capabilities for key embodied-intelligence scenarios—intelligent welding, intelligent grasping, and intelligent machine tending/loading and unloading—continuously providing industrial robots with a high-information-density 3D spatial perception foundation.</p>



<p>He also addressed emerging customer requirements for vision sensors, stating that Vizum’s upcoming product roadmap will further enhance accuracy, speed, and intelligent capability, delivering richer stereo-vision systems to support the industry’s continued advancement.</p>



<h2>From “Seeing Clearly” to “Thinking Smarter”: Edge Intelligence and Data Accumulation at the Front End</h2>



<p>In response to the question, “How can vision evolve from a standalone hardware component into a learning-capable ‘agent’?”, Dr. Dong explained that Vizum’s industrial cameras do more than output 3D point clouds. They also provide on-device intelligence—delivering RGB color information, high-precision stereo data, and cognitive analysis results. During operation, they complete data storage and accumulation to support the back-end “intelligent brain,” enabling continuous iteration based on real-world, on-site data.</p>

<p>He further shared that for welding applications, Vizum’s upcoming products will cover critical data elements across the full welding workflow, including pre-weld seam information, in-process molten pool state analysis, and post-weld quality monitoring—consolidating these insights into robot-ready intelligent data that can be used directly.</p>



<p>Addressing shop-floor challenges such as “weld-gap variation, speed-strategy adjustment, pass/fail judgement, and feedback,” Dr. Dong added that Vizum has already been capturing and structuring key factors during welding—including molten pool information, seam information, and torch posture—building a continuously learnable data foundation. This supports self-learning in welding, turning “welder experience” into iterative, updatable data at scale.</p>



<h2>General-Purpose or Vertical? Building Reusable Capabilities for Multi-Industry Deployment</h2>



<p>In the discussion on “general-purpose vs vertical” commercialization strategies, Dr. Dong emphasized that as a component and capability supplier, Vizum aims to develop its products into a more generalizable “intelligent mini-brain,” capable of matching different customers’ differentiated embodied-intelligence needs. At the same time, Vizum is expanding a broader vision-information system from the perspective of data acquisition, reserving capability headroom for richer application scenarios in the future.</p>

<p>In response, &nbsp;officially launches the new ViEye models – SVersion-HJQD-RGBD-90 and SVersion-HJQD-RGBD-130, introducing two major upgrades: a pneumatic protective cover&nbsp;and a dynamic weld-tracking function. <p>In welding environments, extreme heat, splatter, and dust pose significant challenges to camera protection. Traditional electric covers can safeguard lenses but may fall short in terms of speed and reliability in some production settings. The new ViEye adopts a pneumatic protective cover&nbsp;with air-cooling dissipation, enabling automatic opening and closing when equipment starts or stops. This provides higher efficiency, simpler structure, and better adaptability to diverse working conditions.Users can now freely choose between the electric&nbsp;or pneumatic&nbsp;versions, achieving flexible protection for multiple scenarios.</p>

Leveraging high-speed binocular stereo vision&nbsp;and deep recognition algorithms, it captures the weld seam’s front-end in real time, dynamically outputs weld path information at high frame rates and adjustable frequencies, and ensures precise torch tracking along the seam.</p>

<p>At the meeting, Vizum CEO <strong>Dr. Dong Xiaojian</strong>&nbsp;introduced the company’s self-developed humanoid harvesting robot. Featuring a humanoid body with a mobile chassis, the robot integrates Vizum’s proprietary <strong>line-laser binocular stereo vision system</strong>&nbsp;and <strong>intelligent dexterous hand</strong>, enabling functions such as precise fruit recognition, flexible posture adjustment, and seamless hand–eye coordination. With a picking accuracy of <strong>±1 mm</strong>&nbsp;and a cycle time of just <strong>2 seconds per fruit</strong>, it is capable of both surface-level and deep-canopy harvesting. Compared to traditional methods, the robot demonstrates remarkable advantages in efficiency, safety, environmental adaptability, and multi-variety flexible harvesting—bringing smart agriculture closer to widespread practical deployment.</p>
